Rotor Containers

Protecting high value rotating equipment in demanding environments

Protecting high value rotating equipment in demanding environments

  • Prevent sagging, deflection and mechanical damage
  • Provide long term corrosion protection
  • Enable safe lifting, transport and storage
  • Meet offshore and international quality standards
  • Integrate safety systems for pressure monitoring and control

The Challenge

Operators across offshore, oil and gas, and heavy process industries face a common challenge when storing or transporting rotors, pumps and gear assemblies. These assets are high value, precision engineered and highly vulnerable to corrosion, movement and deformation when left unsupported or exposed to tough environments.

Mayflower Engineering was commissioned to design and manufacture a series of bespoke N2 containers to protect critical rotating equipment during storage, shipment and installation preparation stages.

Mayflower’s Responsibility

Mayflower Engineering developed fully customised nitrogen pressurised containers built to suit each individual rotor, pump or gear assembly.

Each container was engineered with tailored internal supports and clamps to hold the equipment securely in position and prevent movement during transport or long term storage.

The container shells were fully sealed and nitrogen purged to create an inert internal environment, preventing corrosion and protecting sensitive surfaces.

Key design elements included:

  • Containers manufactured to DNV and NORSOK standards
  • Horizontal and vertical impact mountings
  • Custom pressure control valves
  • Load tested lifting points and transport stands
  • Internal fixtures designed to suit each asset profile

Design Phase

Full engineering calculations and 3D modelling were carried out to ensure each container was structurally sound and built to suit the equipment geometry.

Fabrication

Manufactured in-house, each container was built with precision to comply with specified tolerances and pressure requirements.

Testing

All containers were subject to rigorous pressure and functional testing to confirm integrity and safety.

Certification

Final approval and verification were completed in line with DNV requirements prior to delivery.

The finished containers provided a safe, compliant and reliable method for storing and transporting high value rotating equipment in harsh environments.

  • Reduced risk of unplanned damage
  • Improved asset protection
  • Compliance with offshore and international standards
  • Greater confidence in logistics and storage operations
  • Extended component life through controlled internal conditions
