Stainless Steel Engineering Excellence for Specialist Industries
Mayflower Engineering successfully delivered two specialist stainless steel fabrication projects for a confidential client in the nuclear industry and specialist infrastructure sector. Both projects demanded exceptional precision, careful handling, and strict compliance with industry standards.
Project 1: Bar Screen Fabrications for Nuclear Application
Project Scope
Eight large bar screen fabrications measuring 16m × 4m, designed to filter debris with high accuracy. Manufactured from stainless steel 316L for durability and corrosion resistance.
Technical Challenge
Meeting extremely tight tolerances of just +/-1mm across both width and length to ensure 95% debris capture rate as required.
Key Activities
- Material sourcing and preparation
- Precision forming, machining and welding
- Surface treatment to protect against contamination
- Inspection and testing to international standards

Project 2: Stainless Steel Moving Floor Structure
The second project required manufacturing a large modular floor structure measuring 14.85m by 8.35m. This was the third installation of its type completed by Mayflower within two years, demonstrating the team’s established expertise.
The structure had to be fabricated in sections before being assembled and tested in-house, guaranteeing a smooth installation on site. Accuracy was again critical, with tolerances of just +/-5mm across the whole structure.
Special jigs and fixtures were used during welding to control distortion and ensure a perfect fit.

Technical Excellence & Quality Control
Precision Engineering
Both projects required exceptional accuracy, with tolerances as tight as +/-1mm across large structures measuring up to 16m in length.
Material Selection
Meeting stringent requirements for robotic welding processes.
Quality Assurance
All fabrications were delivered to exacting quality standards (ISO 3834-2) with independent welding engineers overseeing procedures.
