MOD Land Magnetic Range
Mayflower Engineering designed, manufactured, tested and delivered a unique transport system for the UK Ministry of Defence
Project Overview and Partnership
Client: MOD (UK Ministry of Defence)
The Challenge
Design and manufacture of a replacement transportation trolley for the Land Magnetic Range testing facility.
This specialist project required precision engineering to meet the exacting standards of a critical defence testing environment.
The Land Magnetic Range Facility
- Purpose
It is used to simulate the Earth’s magnetic field under different global conditions — from the Baltic Sea to the Pacific Ocean — allowing defence equipment to be tested in highly controlled environments. - Critical Role
The facility plays a critical role in testing naval vessels and equipment, such as minesweepers, which can be influenced by the Earth’s magnetic forces.

The Engineering Challenge
Mayflower Engineering was tasked with producing a replacement transportation trolley to support testing at the site. The work required:

Scope
Designed, manufactured, tested and delivered to MOD specifications

Manufacture
Manufacturing a robust, accurate solution suitable for highly controlled testing environments.

Delivery
Delivering within strict confidentiality due to the sensitive nature of the facility.
Our Engineering Solution
Mayflower Engineering applied its expertise in precision engineering to design and build the new transportation trolley. The project required careful attention to detail to ensure compliance with the facility’s technical requirements and to safeguard performance in critical defence testing operations.
Project Outcome
Successful Delivery
The completed trolley was successfully delivered, strengthening the Land Magnetic Range’s ability to continue vital testing operations for the MOD.
This project highlights Mayflower Engineering’s ability to design and manufacture bespoke, high-specification equipment for secure and specialist defence applications.
