The Project

Described as the most important bridge in the UK, The Queen Elizabeth II Bridge requires vigilant maintenance with minimal closure time. Our client was faced with the challenge of replacing the bridge’s movement joints within a limited time-scale, a project which engendered rigorous efficiency and quality standards throughout the entire supply chain. Mayflower played a key role in this operation, providing a specialist manufactured solution which enabled contractors to complete the temporary installation overnight. The contractors even won the prestigious Temporary Works Award at the prestigious British Construction Industry Awards.

The Objectives

A ramp had to be constructed which would enable work to commence underneath the bridge, without inhibiting the flow of traffic along the M25. This project was uniquely challenging, the client required a ramp system which would be strong enough to span 4.5 meters, whilst also providing a safer alternative for the workers than standard up-scaled Proprietary solutions. In addition, it was essential that the ramp would not necessitate speed restrictions for the traffic overhead.

The Solution

Mayflower delivered an innovative ramp system within highly specific standards. Not only did our solution eliminate the need for signage or speed restrictions, but many drivers didn’t even notice that they had passed over a ramp. As such, the client was delighted with our work and able to deliver on their project aims.
