A full-turn key solution

Mayflower Engineering was commissioned by Balfour Beatty to design, supply, install and commission a new lift bridge over the A905 and two new sea lock gates linking the Helix into the River Carron. Mayflower were selected as the company most able to provide a  cost-effective solution to meet the specification and deliver this project successfully.

The Helix is a land transformation project to improve transport connections in Falkirk, Scotland, including the eastern end of the Forth and Clyde Canal, and to regenerate the area near where the canal joins the River Carron. The most visible feature of the development is the two unique equine structures known as The Kelpies.

The solution

Full turn-key project management

We delivered a full turn-key solution for this unique project. Our dedicated Project Manager provided the customer with a single point of contact and managed all elements of the contract, including liaising with civil engineering sub-contractors.

By working closely with the customer, the Project Manager to develop an in-depth understanding of the project requirements. The result was a unique technical solution giving the bridge a pleasing aesthetic appearance whilst ensuring reliable operation.

A supply solution for both design and manufacture

A major advantage of contracting Mayflower for both design and manufacture is that design work can be done in close collaboration with the fabrication and installation teams. This helped minimise any issues and disruptions, preventing delays and minimising closures of the busy A905 Kerse Road.

Our in-house design team also worked closely with the client to ensure their exacting requirements would be met

On-Site Installation & continued maintenance

Mayflower's specialist site team provided on-site installation and testing. In addition, the team visited the site regularly after the completion of the project to ensure the bridge and lock gates continue to meet all requirements,

Thanks to comprehensive planning and preparation, the installation was completed on time and within budget, ensuring minimal disruption to the A905 Kerse Road
