Defence project calls for welding and fabrication know-how

In the defence sector, it's essential that welding and fabrication is completed to the highest possible standards. After all, this is an industry where the consequences of failure could be catastrophic. So when Mayflower delivered eight high- tech turrets this month, it marked the end of a project which utilised specialist design expertise, top quality welding and rigorous testing.

“We worked so closely with the client; they even had their own office at our Sheffield facility!”

With all development projects, liaison with the client is key. Technical Manager Bryce Hunt explains how his team worked closely with the client to create a robust and durable design: “In many projects Mayflower essentially act as the client's product development facility, as our chartered design team work closely with clients to deliver their vision. For this defence project, we worked so closely with the client; they even had their own office at our Sheffield facility!".

That close relationship meant that our client could oversee developments as they happened and be kept in the loop at all times.

Specialist Welding, Fabrication and Assembly

Once design work was completed, we began the process of highly controlled manufacture. Employing International Welding Engineers means that highly qualified personnel are on hand to ensure that fabrication and welding of all defence equipment is to the highest standards. It also means that we are accredited to specialist standards such as ISO 3834-2 and BSEN 15085. Few UK companies can boast that much technical expertise, but without it, the turrets simply could not have been built to the required standard.
