Scottish Canals were entirely satisfied with the central rail anchor system manufactured and installed by Mayflower Engineering at the Falkirk Wheel Boatlift, Falkirk. The Falkirk Wheel is a unique structure and as such presented unique engineering challenges. The rail sets and central anchor design are unique in that they are fitted to a rotating structure and support two water-filled gondolas which travel over the circular rail sets with a radius of 4400mm. The anchor materials were manufactured on time and to specification. During installation issues outside Mayflower Engineering's work scope presented challenges and potential delays. Mayflower Engineering's actions working with both client and designers,ensured that potential impact on program of these engineering changes was minimised. To this effect the project was completed early and to specification. Scottish Canals would be happy to consider Mayflower Engineering for future projects.
